Michael Jordan
This card was made by the Missing Link Productions Co. (MLP). Here is what I found out over the years. I have talked to the US Olympic Basketball Team office people and I was told the story of MLP and it's illegal sales of the cards. This would have been Michael's rookie card if MLP would have went through the proper channels. Because MLP did not have permission from Michael or US Olympic Men's Basketball Team to produce the cards, they became a bootleg card. Some have called it a black market card.
Some of you have cards similar to this one. They were several cards of Michael that was produce during the 84 US Olympic games, all sold in the market, at one time, as Michael's Rookie card. Some folks paid thousands of dollars back in 1984 and 1985. When they find out it was not his rookie card, but a black market card, several law suites we filed against MLP, causing them to go bankrupt. What I have found out, is that these card are the real rookie card of Michael Jordan, however it was never approved by Michael or the Olympic as being so. Michael never received any royalties from these cards and they were never registered as a players card. The photographer for MLP never had permission to produce the cards or sell them to the public.
It was very hard to find out any information about the cards. It took several years to get the information I have posted on this page. I can only go by what other folks have told me about the cards. You get to decided weather it is true. I'm going with, I have a real Rookie Card of Michael Jordan, it has no value other than knowing the "what if" that surrounds it's history.
I was told by several US Olympic Basketball high ranking officials, it is illegal to sell or buy any of the Michael Jordan cards with Missing Link Productions on the back of the card. US Olympic Basketball (USOB) holds the rights to these cards. According the USOB, they are a black market card.
